  7. All procedures of this computer program and its installation have been 
  8. tested on inhouse computer systems of BrainWare and/or client sites to 
  9. provide best possible compatibility to your systems. As there are differ-
  10. ences between software versions and computer equipment, BrainWare does 
  11. not take any responsability for damages or loss of data caused by the 
  12. installation/usage of the WinMan system. The client is responsible for a 
  13. full backup of its own software/data prior to install and a proper 
  14. compatibility test before using this software in an enduser environment.

  17. Using this Software (Licencing/Support)
  18. ---------------------------------------
  19. The WinMan Software package was developed at BrainWare Consulting & Deve-
  20. lopment, R.Schallberger, Schaffhauserstr. 82, CH-8222 Beringen/Switzerland.
  21. All rights are reserved to this company. The package of software you just
  22. recieved is a trial licence which may be used free of charge during 60 days
  23. after installation on a maximum of 20 workstations per company. After this
  24. trial time you have to buy or remove this software. Pricing information can 
  25. be found in the document PRICES.ZIP which is a zipped WinWord 2.0 document.
  26. In order to be able to provide support during your trial time, we need the
  27. following information of your company to be faxed to us before any call can
  28. be answered:

  31.               Name/Department of the person in charge with evaluation
  32.               Network environment (e.g. Novell NW386, 4MB Tokenring...)
  33.               Primary used computer hardware (e.g Compaq 486/33,VGA)

  71. Introduction
  72. ------------
  73. As you may imagine, it is not easy to provide an installation routine
  74. for a piece of software which is meant to install/maintain the software
  75. on your network/workstation.
  76. As the configuration of the WinMan scripts depends on your personal disk
  77. structure as well as your preferences (e.g. Menu titles, notification
  78. messages), we provide a limited setup routine which supports a list of
  79. applications documented later in this file. 
  80. This 'Base Installation' will allow you to get a first understanding of 
  81. WinMan's functionalities. Please take the time to experience this system
  82. and use this understanding to go on with the implementation of a complete
  83. WinMan system in your environment. 
  84. The environment which gets installed automatically provides the following

  113. To implement such functions please do not hesitate to contact us. We can 
  114. provide sample instructions to add such functionality.

  116. You can find later in this document a more detailed description of the 
  117. functionality of the implementation of each application as well as the list
  118. of files which will be overwritten by WinMan. During the installation of 
  119. WinMan the Setup routine will copy files which could be overwritten into 
  120. a seperate directory (\BACKUP.WM under your Windows user directory) to 
  121. avoid damages or loss of settings in case of problems. Please be aware 
  122. that running the installation routine more the once would copy the files 
  123. again in their most recent status !

  125. Installation
  126. ------------
  127. Prerequisites: - Windows 3.x/Windows for Workgroups 3.x
  128.                - Workstation running Windows in 386 Enhanced Mode
  129.                - 0.5 MB of disk space for WinMan application files
  130.                  (per WS or central on network, depends on installation)
  131.                - about 15 KB of disk space per user on networks   
  132.                - max. 200 KB RAM during execution within Windows
  133.                  (no TSR/drivers required before loading Windows)
  134.                - a copy of BWCC.DLL (can be found on Compuserve,
  135.                  GO BPASCAL, Library 10 Windows Tools)

  137. The test installation of WinMan reads settings of the applications currently
  138. installed in your Windows to find out which applications are available. 
  139. There for make sure the workstation you use to run the initial installation
  140. is a Windows system which is fully configured on your needs (Windows incl.
  141. requested applications). You will find later a description how to port such
  142. a configuration to additional systems without the need to configure them
  143. (except Windows itself).
  144.  
  145. The files in the downloaded ZIP file are prepared to run off any drive/sub-
  146. directory you copy it to. If you remove the documentation ZIP files, you 
  147. can copy the installation files also to a floppy disk (1.44MB) please make 
  148. sure to use the -D parameter when unzipping. This will preserve the directory
  149. structure.

  151. Make sure the Windows System directory contains a copy of BWCC.DLL. This is
  152. the Borland runtime Library. If you don't have this file, please download
  153. it from CompuServe, GO BPASCAL, Library 10 Windows Tools.

  155. To run the installation please first choose the type of setup you need.
  156. The 'Standalone Installation' simply installs WinMan for the usage of your
  157. locally installed Windows. The 'Network Installation' offers you basically
  158. the same functionality but runs the files off a common network drive. This 
  159. allows you to add easily additional workstations to your test environment
  160. (e.g. to test the network support features). Please be aware that the 
  161. Network installation just reads the settings of the machine you are working 
  162. on and there for will use this settings on any additional machine.
  163.  
  164.     Standalone Installation
  165.     -----------------------
  166.     1.  Start Windows    
  167.     2.  Insert the floppy into any drive and run x:INSTALL.EXE, where
  168.         'x' marks the drive letter of the drive you inserted the floppy to
  169.     3.  INSTALL requires now the directory where it should install the 
  170.         WinMan application files. By default this is the \WINMAN subdirectory
  171.         within the Windows System directory. You may choose any drive/directory
  172.         you want.
  173.     4.  Now start the installation and wait until the task is complete.
  174.     5.  This completes the installation of WinMan. To make it active, now 
  175.         simply run WINMAN.EXE off the Windows system directory you have
  176.         choosen, or even better, use the Filemanager to drag WINMAN.EXE into
  177.         the AutoStart group to make it active at every startup of the 
  178.         workstation.
  179.  
  180.     Once you've completed the configuration of one system you can simply copy
  181.     it to additional systems by copying the contents of the WinMan appli-
  182.     cation directory plus the following files within the Windows system
  183.     directory to the new system:

  185.         WINMAN.EXE
  186.         WINMAN.INI
  187.         BW_SHELL.DLL
  188.         BW_TOOL.DLL
  189.         BW_DDE.DLL
  190.         FBDLL.DLL
  191.         BWCC.DLL
  192.     
  193.     Then startup Windows on this machine and add WINMAN.EXE to the AutoStart
  194.     group of your menu system.

  196.     Network Installation
  197.     --------------------
  198.     1.  Start Windows    
  199.     2.  Insert the floppy into any drive and run x:INSTALL.EXE, where

  205.         supervisory rights to write to this area. If you are running a
  206.         local copy of Windows, you should choose a common network drive to
  207.         install WinMan. This will allow easy distribution to any additional
  208.         users you may wanne use WinMan. Please be aware that you can run 
  209.         WinMan off a networked installation of WinMan without any risk to 
  210.         disturb any other users configuration, as the only file which may
  211.         be used by other users is the  BWCC.DLL (Borland control library).
  212.     4.  Now start the installation and wait until the task is complete.
  213.     5.  This completes the installation of WinMan. To make it active, now 
  214.         simply run WINMAN.EXE off the WinMan application directory you have
  215.         choosen, or even better, use the Filemanager to drag WINMAN.EXE into
  216.         the AutoStart group to make it active at every startup of the 
  217.         workstation.
  218.     6.  If you want to use WinMan on additional workstations, simply add
  219.         WINMAN.EXE to the AutoStart group of the users configuration. If
  220.         You installed WinMan into a different directory then the WINMAN 
  221.         subdirectory within the Windows system directory, make sure all 
  222.         necessary users have read access to this directory. If you are 
  223.         running a local installation of Windows, you have to copy the
  224.         following files from the workstation you used for the original setup
  225.         into the Windows system directory:

  230.         BW_TOOL.DLL

  235.     IMPORTANT (for Standalones and networked Workstations)
  236.     ------------------------------------------------------
  237.     Do not register WINMAN.EXE in the RUN= or LOAD= commandline of WIN.INI,
  238.     as this would require to provide also scripts to start your menu system
  239.     and so on. This is part of a complete WinMan setup and not the test
  240.     setup you are installing right now.

  243. Documentation
  244. -------------
  245. If you recieve this via floppy disk, the floppy contains the current WinMan
  246. documentation in a file called WMDOC.ZIP which is in the common PKZIP format.
  247. To unpak this file, copy it to a harddisk drive and use PKUNZIP WMDOC.ZIP. 
  248. The file will use about 2 MB of diskspace when expanded.
  249. If you downloaded these files from Compuserve, the documentation can be found
  250. in a seperate file WMDOC.ZIP in the same Forum you downloaded the WM15.ZIP.
  251. The documentation is in WINWORD 2.0 format and formatted for duplex
  252. printing on a HP LaserJet 4si. To print it, select duplex printing - short
  253. edge binding in the Printer setup panel.
  254. Also check the document FAMILIAR.ZIP which contains some information to
  255. get easier familiar with the product.
